Description

The disk drive cable for most Commodore PETs was a custom Commodore part, as it went from the PET’s 24-pin edge connector to the standard GPIB connector on the disk drive.  Today, those cables are very rare.  Instead you can use this adapter, along with a standard GPIB-GPIB cable to connect your PET and disk drive as the PET IEEE-488 Port Adapter converts from the Commodore PET IEEE-488 edge connector to a 24-pin Centronics female connector.

It can also be used with Commodore VIC-20s and Commodore 64s to connect IEEE-488 devices when combined with an adapter cartridge such as the VIC-1112 and C64 IEEE-488.

In addition to converting from the edge connector to the standard GPIB Centronics connector, the Port Adapter also enables the 24 IEEE-488/GPIB pins to be broken out to a separate header, to aid with diagnostics.  This header comes unpopulated, but can be easily added using a standard 2.54mm (0.1″) pitch header.

The adaptor comes assembled or unassembled per your preference.  If you choose unassembled you will receive the bare board, the GPIB connector, and the 24-pin Centronics connector.  Ensure you solder the GPIB connector on the correct way round – see the photo of the assembled unit.

The GPIB connector should be underneath the circuit board when inserting into your PET.

We are currently shipping PCBs in our standard blue.   The “ears” shown in the photo of the assembled unit are not supplied, as they are typically not used with GPIB cables.  If you would like them included, please include a note on your order.

GPIB cable is not included.
